When the fundamentalist Mullahs seized power back in 1979 they urged the country to pro-create. Twenty years later Iran has a massive population problem. Now the Mullahs, in a remarkable display of political pragmatism, have made a complete turn by instituting one of the world's most enlightened population control programmes. Vasectomies are encouraged and condoms are distributed free. Even sex education classes of surprising candour are now compulsory for all couples about to get married.
